# Quick Start

Everything you need to make your first deposit, in about five minutes.

## 1. Get a wallet

Buoy works with standard EVM wallets — MetaMask, Rabby, Coinbase Wallet, Rainbow, or anything supporting WalletConnect. Click **Connect Wallet** in the top-right corner of the app and pick yours.

## 2. Connect to HyperEVM

Buoy runs on **HyperEVM**, Hyperliquid's EVM chain:

| Setting        | Value                       |
| -------------- | --------------------------- |
| Network name   | HyperEVM                    |
| Chain ID       | `999`                       |
| Native token   | HYPE                        |
| RPC URL        | `https://rpc.hypurrscan.io` |
| Block explorer | <https://hyperevmscan.io>   |

You don't need to add the network manually — if your wallet is on the wrong chain, every action button in the app turns into **"Switch to HyperEVM"** (and the wallet button in the navbar shows **"Wrong network"**); one click configures it for you.

## 3. Fund your wallet

You need two tokens on HyperEVM:

* **USDC** — the only deposit asset. This is what you'll put into vaults.
* **HYPE** — a small amount for gas and the per-request fee (currently 0.01 HYPE per deposit or withdrawal request). A few HYPE is plenty.

You can bridge USDC to HyperEVM, withdraw it from Hyperliquid to the EVM side — or use the **+ TOP UP** button in any vault's deposit panel, which opens an in-app widget for bridging or buying USDC directly onto HyperEVM.

## 4. Pick a vault

Browse the vault list on the home page. Each card and table row shows the vault's **APR (30D)**, age, total value locked (TVL), and a 30-day PnL trend, plus any risk/strategy badges the Leader declared. Search by name or ticker, or filter to **My deposits** once you hold positions. See [Choosing a Vault](/for-depositors/choosing-a-vault.md) for how to read these numbers.

## 5. Deposit

On the vault's page:

1. Enter a USDC amount in the **Deposit** panel (minimum 1 USDC).
2. Review the quote — expected Buoys, current share price, and projected yield.
3. Click **Approve & Deposit** and confirm in your wallet. The first deposit needs two signatures (a USDC approval, then the deposit); later ones are a single transaction.

Your deposit shows as **Pending** for a short moment, then your Buoys are minted straight to your wallet — usually within a minute or two. That's it: your capital is now working in the vault.

{% hint style="info" %}
Deposits and withdrawals on Buoy are **asynchronous** — they settle shortly after your transaction rather than instantly. This is what guarantees you always transact at the vault's fair, live value. Read more in [How Buoy Works](/getting-started/how-buoy-works.md).
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.buoy.finance/getting-started/quick-start.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
