# Vault Profile

Your vault's public profile is what convinces depositors to trust you with their capital. Most of it is captured when you create the vault, and the parts that matter most can be changed afterwards.

## What the profile contains

**Set at creation** (see [Creating a Vault](/for-vault-leaders/creating-a-vault.md)):

* Display name and vault avatar
* Description — your strategy pitch, minimum 90 characters
* X profile (optional)

**Editable any time, from Manage → Public profile:**

| Field          | Options                                                                                                                                                               |
| -------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Risk level** | *Low risk* — conservative sizing, tight drawdown control · *Mid risk* — moderate leverage and drawdowns · *High risk* — aggressive leverage, large swings possible |
| **Strategy** | *Market neutral* — hedged, aims to profit regardless of direction · *Directional* — takes long and short directional positions · *Long biased* — mostly long exposure |
| **X profile** | A handle, `@handle` or profile URL. Clear the field to unlink. |

Risk level and strategy show as **badges** on your vault card and detail page. They're the first thing depositors filter on mentally, and a vault without them reads as unfinished — set them.

**Fixed forever:** the 3-character ticker (baked into the share token's on-chain symbol) and — from your side — the performance fee.

## How editing works

Saving a profile change is a **wallet signature, not a transaction**: the app asks you to sign a typed message, the backend verifies the signature against the vault's on-chain Leader address, and the change goes live. **No gas, no account, no password.** Your on-chain Leader address *is* your identity.

Description and tagline edits are supported by the same authenticated mechanism; the in-app editor currently exposes risk level, strategy and the X link. If you need your description or avatar changed today, reach out to the team.

All leader-authored text and images pass automated moderation before publication.

## Writing a profile that works

Depositors scan the vault list quickly. What they want to know:

1. **What do you trade?** Assets, venues, long/short, timeframes.
2. **How do you manage risk?** Max leverage, drawdown discipline, position sizing.
3. **Who are you?** Track record elsewhere, public presence.

Be specific. "Momentum on majors, max 3x leverage, hard stop at 10% drawdown" beats "professional trading strategies" every time.

And remember the profile is checkable. Buoy publishes your vault's live positions (**Overview → TVL Breakdown**), your recent fills (**Overview → Trades**), and your depositor base (**Overview → Depositors**). A description that doesn't match the book is worse than a vague one — pick badges and words you'd be comfortable defending against your own chart.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.buoy.finance/for-vault-leaders/vault-profile.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
